Julie Dexter is an East London poet and winner of the 2023 Pen to Print Poetry Prize. Trained at The Hammond School before working as a professional dancer, she brings a dancer’s instinct for cadence, movement and pattern to her poetry.

Her work has appeared in Acumen, Write On!, Leaf and Haus-a-Rest, with new work forthcoming in the Maiden Mother Crone anthology (SeaCrow Press, 2026). Her writing explores the shifting forces at work in the natural world and in human relationships, tracing the thresholds where change becomes transformation. Alongside poetry, she writes creative prose exploring grief, resilience and renewal. She is a participant in Hannah Lowe’s year-long Writing Otherwise programme and is currently developing her first full poetry collection through experimentation with hybrid and innovative forms.
