Julie Dexter is an East London poet and winner of the 2023 Pen to Print Poetry Prize. Trained at The Hammond School before working as a professional dancer, she brings a dancer’s instinct for cadence, movement and pattern to her poetry.

Her work has appeared in Acumen, The Berlin Literary Review, The Hooghly Review and Haus-a-Rest, with new work forthcoming in both the Beyond Words Anthology (2027), and the Maiden Mother Crone anthology (SeaCrow Press, 2026). Julie is a regular contributor to Write On! Magazine.

Her writing explores the shifting forces at work in the natural world and in human relationships, tracing the thresholds where change becomes transformation. She is a participant in Hannah Lowe’s year-long Writing Otherwise programme and is currently developing her first full poetry collection through experimentation with hybrid and innovative forms.
